DOJMI PAVILION , KOTOR, MONTENEGRO

Context

Pavilion Dojmi is situated in a highly sensitive urban surrounding that is registered as a Unesco World heritage. The Pavilion architecture is stretched from east (the main city gate) to the west (citadel) having the city of Kotor fortification walls as a constant background.

The main design criteria for the new Pavilion Dojmi are the evaluation of this context.

Concept

Aesthetics of the structure ? Structure of the aesthetics

The treatment of the pavilion structure is inseparable to the pavilion aesthetics. This relation between the structure and the aesthetics is actually following main principles of any fortification architecture.

Relation between roof/ceiling and the surroundings

The open structure of the roof diagonal grid (it allows us column less architecture ? transparency) is the main and only aesthetics element of the Pavilion architecture and the interior. In the same way the structure of the existing Kotor fortification walls are transforming into architecture ? aesthetics / opposite to the principle of the decoration of the construction.

Therefore, we can conclude that the Pavilion Dojmi architecture has the same architecture ?language? as the fortification behind the Pavilion.

The Pavilion design is integrated in the highly sensitive urban context, which with its spatial completeness of the park, fortification walls and pavilion, creates a continuous public space in the city Kotor urban tissue.
